Cymbidium
The Cymbidium is enormously versatile because of its wide variety of colours, shapes and unique flowers. You can recognise a cymbidium by its impressive flower spike. In total, there are about 1,000 different types of cymbidiums, some more beautiful than others. Despite its tropical and elegant appearance, the cymbidium is not a weak flower. This cymbidium is native to the Himalayan mountains, where the weather is unpredictable and nature is rocky. This makes it a strong flower that can flower even in harsh conditions.
Phalaenopsis
The phalaenopsis owes its name to moths. Indeed, the discoverer of the phalaenopsis thought it looked very much like this. The name phalaenopsis therefore stands for the Greek "phalaina" (moth) and "opsis" (resembling). The phalaenopsis originates in Southeast Asia, the Philippines and Australia. In nature, the phalaenopsis grows in trees just like the Vanda. Here, the phalaenopsis does not extract nutrients from the trees but absorbs nutrients through its aerial roots.
Vanda
The vanda is native to the Himalayas, Inda and southern China. In India, the blue vanda orchid symbolises peace. Of all the orchid species, the vanda has the most colours, even blue. The petals of the vanda have spots and stripes on them. This is how the vanda can be recognised. The vanda survives by absorbing water and nutrition from morning dew and rain. This is possible because the vanda clips its aerial roots into the bark of a tree.
