The Ficus is a fabulous houseplant which has been very popular for many years thanks to its beautiful shape, strong look and easy care needs. The fact that Ficus is a green air purifier also makes it a popular plant. The demand for air-purifying plants is constantly growing, particularly at this time when people are at home a lot. We would like to tell you more about this plant and highlight one species.

As we just mentioned, the Ficus not only gives a natural feel but also ensures a healthy working and living environment! The Ficus is amongst the ten most air-purifying plants in the world. In fact, the Ficus appears in the top 10 twice! Because the Ficus removes CO2 from the air and converts it into oxygen, the plant gives a better air quality in the home. The Ficus is a very versatile plant. There are several species, each with their own characteristics. Ficus benjamina is also known as the weeping fig. The leaves of this plant are beautifully shiny and are about 5 to 15 cm long with a pointed oval shape. In the wild the plant can grow into a tree of up to 30 metres tall. This particularly happens in tropical environments, where the plant does very well. In temperate climates the plant is more commonly used as a house plant. But if looked after well it can also develop into a large plant indoors, making it a unique feature in an interior!

Care tips for consumers
o Ficus benjamina requires a light position.
o The lighter the plant’s position, the more water it needs. So match the amount of water to the position and water regularly: the soil should never dry out entirely.
o You can give can less water during the hibernation period in winter. Make sure the water isn’t too cold. Place the plant outside to enjoy a refreshing rain shower in the spring and summer.
o Give plant food once a month to keep your Ficus attractive and strong.
o Any yellow or ugly leaves can be pulled off.
o Leaf drop in autumn and winter will be usually due to dry air indoors caused by the heating. Humidifiers are a good solution in that situation.
o If the plant gets too big or less attractive, it can be pruned. When the days start to get longer, the plant will produce new leaves of its own accord.
